'The Goose' by VR (circa 1940s - 1960s)

'The Goose', oil on board, by artist with the initials, VR (circa 1940s - 1960s). The goose totem symbolises attaining spiritual enlightenment. When people achieve an enlightened state, they accept themselves just the way they are and accept other people and the world as they are as well. Geese can also symbolise fertility, success, wealth, good luck and success in a lifelong partnership. In this work of art, the artist's vision is that of a cubist goose, structured, angled and resplendent with colourful geometric shapes accomplished with strong brushstrokes over a neutral backdrop of light grey. This artwork is in very good vintage condition commensurate with age but shows some very slight blemishing and fading accordingly. This in no way detracts from the overall impression of the work which retains its strong allure. It is newly framed with an elegant linen slip. Initialed in the lower righthand corner: 'VR'. Upon request, a video of the piece will be provided. 

About the Artist: Our gallery has access to a cache of paintings from Berlin in the 1940s - 1960s. What we know of VR is derived from our source from whom we've obtained this artwork along with several others. The artist who used these initials ostensibly lived in Berlin in the period after WWII. This may explain the use of initials rather than a full signature as this form of work was considered unorthodox and not recognised under the tight control of the authorities. Nevertheless, several galleries have acquired and are now selling VR's works - this speaks to the widespread assessment of the quality and interest of the art.
