'The Firm Embrace' by STM (circa 1940s - 1960s)
SKU 0471
'The Firm Embrace', oil on board, by STM (circa 1940s - 1960s). The artist with initials STM rarely fails to disappoint. In this painting the artist depicts a portrait of a couple in firm embrace. The evident love between them is transmitted from the image to the viewer like a laser beam to its target. The female figure clearly has difficulty masking her heated thoughts brought on by her lover's firm caress. Like many other STM works, the painting is executed in the subtle spectrum of earth tones. Visual harmony and balance are the trademark of this wonderful artist. The artwork is in good vintage condition in a new, elegant frame with linen slip. Signed: 'STM' in lower righthand corner. Upon request, a short video clip of the piece may be provided.
About the Artist: Our gallery has access to a cache of paintings from Berlin in the 1940s - 1960s. What we know of STM is derived from our source from whom we've obtained this artwork along with several others. The artist who used these initials ostensibly lived in Berlin in the period after WWII. This may explain the use of initials rather than a full signature as this form of work was considered unorthodox and not recognised under the tight control of the authorities. Nevertheless, several galleries have acquired and are now selling STM's works - this speaks to the widespread assessment of the quality and interest of the art.
