'The Beach at La Spezia', gouache on fine art paper, by Enrico Paulucci (circa 1960s). An idyllic beach day where brightly-coloured umbrellas, beach towels and waving pennants transport the viewer to the Italian Riviera. Off in the distance, another port is in view - probably Lerici. 

About the Artist: Enrico Paulucci (1901 - 1999). Originally from Montegrosso, in the Piedmont region of Italy, Paulucci moved to Turin with his family where he completed his classical studies. He showed an inclination and passion for painting and in 1928 he went to Paris to deepen his understanding of French art from Impressionism onwards. He was particularly interested in the works of Picasso, Henri Matisse, Raoul Dufy and Georges Braque. In 1929 he returned to Turin, where he joined his friends and with them formed the Group of Six of Turin. The group disbanded in 1931. The subjects depicted in Paulicci's works are primarily landscapes, figures, vibrant seascapes and still-lifes using oil and gouache as well as drawings in pen and pencil. Paulucci died in 1999, in the historic centre of Turin. Today his apartment houses an archive that documents the painter's life as an artist. His art continues to be widely collected internationally and his works often feature at the auctions of the major worldwide houses. Dozens of art catalogues and books document the artist's works. This piece is in good vintage condition commensurate with age. It is framed and glazed.
