'St. Tropez' by Mario Passarelli (circa 1960s)
0338
Mario Passarelli (b. 1930), impressionist painter born in Provence in the South of France and belonging to the group of painters with reference to the 'Ecole Française'.
This joyous work of art depicts the heights of the village of St. Tropez on the Côte d'Azur, France, in the 1960s before it became known as the chic playground of the glitterati. The azure blues of the Mediterranean form the backdrop for the terra cotta rooftops, the sandstone-fronted houses and the accompanying green foliage so prevalent in Provence. In this work, they are seen through the vibrant lens of this impressionist painter, Mario Passarelli.
Oil on canvas, newly framed, in good condition. Consistent with its age, the paint shows slight cracking in several locations particularly if held up to a rear light source. It is virtually unnoticeable from a short distance and within the overall context of the impressionist style. A short video clip of this work can be provided upon request.
