'Someone is Looking' by Franco Gentili (2002)
SKU 1721
'Someone is Looking' or 'Nude in an Interior', art pencils on paper by Franco Gentili (School of Rome). An artwork of sizeable presence, Gentili's cubist portrait of a seated nude is reminiscent of the works of Pablo Picasso. Cubists abandoned perspective turning away from the realistic modelling of figures. Instead, they portrayed subjects from various angles and created a new dimension to painting. Behind this depiction's subject is another framed portrait on the wall, also signed by the artist. That portrait is looking over the seated model and likely represents the artist himself expressing pleasure with his own creation.
Inspired by Picasso certainly, but at the same time the artist demonstrates a unique style of his own sure to energise the imaginations of all who view this work. This piece was discovered in Parma, Italy and has been newly framed and glazed with anti-reflective glass. It is in good overall condition. A somewhat tattered document certifying the authenticity of the artwork is signed by a Dr. Gianni De Mattia (Rome) and is included with the painting.
About the Artist: Franco Gentili was born circa 1940 and his artworks are considered to be part of those belonging to 'the School of Rome' or 'Scuola Romana'.
