'Revelry in a Bath' (circa 1950s-70s)
SKU 0912
'Revelry in a Bath', oil on board, by unknown artist (circa 1950s-70s). A modern depiction, perhaps of activities in an ancient Roman bath, presented in the context of cubism and abstraction. Curvaceous nudes repose in a myriad of intertwining postures which the artist captures in flesh tones with stone grey hues as background. Abandoning perspective from a fixed viewpoint, the artist here uses the black, bold lines and geometric shapes to form the figures and surfaces at various angles. There is a lively energy creating a sense of movement in the painting. In its own way, it is an homage to the masters of cubism, Picasso and Braque, with a bit of cheekiness as a bonus. Newly framed with a linen slip, the artwork is in good vintage condition commensurate with age. Please carefully view the accompanying photos to best assess the work's condition and style. Upon request a video will be provided. Signed in the lower right hand corner but illegible. Regrettably nothing is known of the artist who signed the work. The piece was discovered in Italy via a contact in Berlin, Germany.
