'Reclining Nude' by STM (circa 1940s - 1950s)
'Reclining Nude', oil on board, by artist with the initials STM (circa 1940s - 1950s). A splendid cubist depiction, this is an impressive portrait of a reclining nude woman in geometric perspective. The earth tone hues - brown and beige also with shades of blue-grey all combine in angular forms and contrast with the sensuous curves painted by the artist. This eye-catching work was surely inspired by Pablo Picasso's early cubist style.
Unfortunately nothing is known of this artist, STM, other than he/she lived in Berlin in the period after WWII. Several galleries have acquired and are now selling STM's works - this speaks to the widespread assessment of the quality and interest of the art. The work is in excellent vintage condition and has been newly framed with a linen slip insert. Initialed: 'STM' in lower righthand corner. This piece is an inspired choice for your home.
