'Portrait of Woman in Purple Coat', oil on board (circa 1940s), by artist with the initials A.R.D. This painting is an homage to the original Henri Matisse painting by the same name. Many fine arts students copy approved works of masterful paintings. In this case, A.R.D. faithfully reproduced this portrait of Lydia Delectorskaya, Matisse's model for this painting and long time assistant. The original painting is a superb example of the use of colour to express emotions in life. The vibrant purple coat makes Lydia virtually pop out of the chaise lounge upon which she sits, confirming her as the focal point of the work. This work has the same visual impact which is a result of the preponderance of curves and lack of straight lines. It's a delight and will enliven any room in which it is displayed.

The only thing known about the artist with the initials A.R.D. is that he/she lived in Berlin in the period after WWII. This is a great opportunity to own a depiction of a classic Matisse painting executed over 70 years ago. In very good vintage condition, newly framed with linen slip. Upon request, a short video of the artwork may be provided.
