'Portrait of the Owners of the Cheval d'Or Paris', oil on paper, (1960) by René Hamiot (1912 - 1975). The Cheval d'Or was a well known restaurant and cabaret in Paris's Latin Quarter on Rue Descartes. It was open between 1955 and 1969 and was a small but lively venue dedicated to French songs and artistic expression. This artwork portrays the owners of the Cheval d'Or, their subdued dress and demeanour, contrast with the explosion of colour behind them. In excellent vintage condition, newly framed and glazed. Signed: '60 R. Hamiot'. On the rear of the work (now covered by a new backing) are the words: 'Les Propiétaires du Cheval D'Or - Paris'. A short video clip of this work can be provided upon request.
