'Portrait of a Young Man' by Unknown Artist (circa 1950s)

'Portrait of a Young Man', oil on canvas (c. 1950s) by unknown artist, most likely French. It's unfortunate that this portrait was unsigned - we'll never know who created this painting. Discovered in the south of France, the piece is charming - there is an intangible something that speaks to the viewer but remains hard to describe. Why is this painting so special? Is it the serious gaze of the subject? Maybe it was a self-portrait? Maybe it didn't quite meet the artist's own expectations? Perhaps the subject was a lover who moved on? Whatever the case, it has loads of charm and the portrait oozes character. The colours: greens, blues and black are balanced and harmonious - it certainly piques one's curiosity. Who is this handsome man and why was he painted? Only the artist will know we suppose. In very good vintage condition. Small portions of the canvas have been deliberately left blank as part of the painting style. A short video clip of the artwork is available upon request.
