'Portrait of a Woman in Red Dress' by Louis Latapie (circa 1930s)
SKU 1219
'Portrait of a Woman in Red Dress', oil on canvas, by Louis Latapie (circa 1930s). During the 1930s, Latapie painted thoughtful figurative works, mostly portraits and landscapes. Although this beautiful subject remains nameless, the artist had several portraits of blonde-haired women wearing striking red dresses. In the 1950s these tended more towards abstraction. The model posing for this particular portrait seems confidently spirited with intense blue eyes. At the same time she is content and comfortable having her portrait painted. Behind her is wallpaper with diamond shapes in a vertical pattern, somewhat reminiscent of Matisse's portraits with colourfully patterned walls in the South of France. The artwork is in good overall condition in a tray frame. It is signed by the artist in the lower left hand corner. Upon request a video of the piece may be provided. This gallery has several paintings by Latapie. Please feel free to enquire about any of them on this platform.
