'Pizzicato' double bass player, oil on board (circa 1940s - 50s), by artist with initials, V.R. When a double bass player plucks the strings with their fingers it is called 'pizzicato'. This sumptuous cubist depiction of the musician is inspired by Picasso without a doubt. The face is reminiscent of an African mask as seen in Picasso's first cubist work, 'Les Demoiselles d'Avignon'. In this work by V.R., the colours are striking and its more vertical aspect sets it apart as perfect for that empty niche in one's home or work space. Unfortunately nothing is known of this artist, VR, other than they lived in Berlin in the period after WWII. Several galleries have acquired and are now selling these works which speaks to the widespread assessment of the quality and interest of the art. The painting is in very good vintage condition commensurate with its age. It has been newly framed with linen slip. Upon request, a video clip may be provided for context.
