Oyster Shell Shaped Ceramic Tray by Marcel Guillot (circa 1960s)

Oyster shell-shaped ceramic platter by French ceramicist, Marcel Guillot (circa 1960s). An impressively large platter with speckled, matt, off-white interior surface with tactile ridges such as those on an oyster shell. In contrast, the bottom surface is of a lustrous, black enamel up to the lip. All that's missing is the pearl. A unique piece from a French artisan whose works are becoming more appreciated as his reputation soars. In good vintage condition. Guillot's later pieces were stamped, 'Guillot France' rather than signed. Please view the many accompanying photos with this listing. 

About the Artist: Marcel Guillot (1910-1985) studied at the School of Applied Arts in Paris. After working at the Sèvres factory, he opened his own studio in south west Paris. His production was mainly utilitarian, but also decorative, and he potted for several other artists. He was President of the Union for Ceramic Artists in France and took part in a number of Ceramic and Decorative fairs. He also presented at the International Exhibition in Brussels in 1958.
