Mid-century ceramic glazed vase (circa 1960s) by Marcel Giraud, Vallauris, France. A piece with a graceful, curvy shape, wide mouth and muted chalk-coloured base with variegated glaze of brown speckles, it is classic vintage 20th-century style. This elegant vase has a repeating leaf motif around the centre and on the lip, an elegant meandering line decoration. Sure to be a conversation piece in your home or work place. In good vintage condition with characterful blemishes commensurate with age. Signed on the bottom: 'Giraud'. Upon request, a short video clip of this piece may be provided.
About the Artist: Marcel Giraud (born 1937), from Vallauris, France left school at the age of 13 to become an apprentice potter at the workshop of Blaise Rubino. He later worked at several other workshops in the area until he opened his own studio in 1960 creating mostly utilitarian ware. Since 1975 Giraud has taken up painting, sculpture and continues to create sculptural figures, animals and other decorative objects in his retirement.
