'The Man in the Boat', oil on board, by Mario Berrino (circa 1970s). Boats, fishermen, ports and life by the seaside are frequent subjects of Berrino's art. In this piece, a faceless man stands rowing his small boat in calm harbour waters to his destination. It's a humble vessel with old car tires as fenders. The boatsman was captured in blue workingman's garb with a fisherman's cap as he looks forward past the bow of the boat to another day in his life. Berrino's trademark style is featured here with thick, impasto layers used to great effect. In good vintage condition commensurate with age. The painting has been newly framed and backed. Signed: 'Mario Berrino' in the lower righthand corner. Upon request a video of the piece will be provided.

About the Artist: Mario Berrino (1920 - 1911), Italian artist from Alassio. Along with his brothers he managed the most famous venue of the Italian Riviera: the Caffè Roma. This became the meeting place in Italy preferred by artists and celebrities from around the world. Ernest Hemingway was one of those frequent guests.

With respect to his artistic career, Berrino studied under well known Italian art professor Busnelli. His works have featured in numerous private and public collections and his paintings are part of the permanent collections in two galleries in Monte Carlo and Alassio. In addition, Berrino's works frequently have a place in prestigious sales at the world's leading auction houses.
