'Les Grands Boulevards - Paris', oil on board, by François Gall (circa 1950s). An impressionist depiction of Parisians promenading at dusk. The remaining light of the day peeks through the trees softly illuminating strollers passing by one of the iconic, colourful Parisian news kiosks. In original frame with plant motif and artist name plate attached to linen slip. Signed by the artist in lower left hand corner: 'F. Gall'. In good vintage condition commensurate with age. About the Artist: François Gall (1912 - 1987) was born "Ferenc Erdelyi Gall" in 1912 in Hungary. In 1936, he moved to Paris. Gall's war time years were spent in Austria where he was a medic who attended to Jewish people. After the war, Gall returned to Paris and resumed his career as an artist where he painted a very wide range of subjects in the impressionistic style. The artist painted mostly figures but also a variety of subjects including bright street scenes, portraits, still life, and landscapes. Gall's figures were often women performing everyday and artistic activities such as sewing or ballet dancing. In the 1950s and 1960s, Gall's works were exhibited internationally and a permanent exhibition of his works was curated in Bern, Switzerland. The Marlborough Fine Art Gallery in London also curated an exhibition of thirty of Gall's works. His art is collected internationally and in strong demand by clients of the well known auction houses.
