Large mid-century decorative platter (circa 1960s) by Albert Thiry (1932 - 2009). A whitened glazed centre is encircled by deeply engraved flower motif in brown and topped in the upper most circle in Thiry's trademark hazy green. Rustically beautiful, the lip of the platter has white, brown and green at the top and a brown painted line outlining the piece at its lip bottom. The underside base is an unglazed earthy clay brown where the signature appears: 'Thiry'. The platter is irregularly shaped and is not a perfect circle nor uniform in height all around. This is part of its charm. This Thiry piece is both visually stunning and very tactile. In good vintage condition commensurate with age. Upon request a video of the work will be provided.

About the Artist: Albert Thiry (1932 - 2009) was born in Nice, France. His family moved to Vallauris where he spent most of the school holidays in the potteries; in 1956 he was taken on as an assistant decorator with an opportunity to make his own pieces. Albert and his wife, Pyot, set up their own pottery in 1961. Their standard production, in Vallauris clay with added grog to emphasise rusticity, resulted in delightful pieces both highly elaborate and utilitarian.
