A graceful vase by Jacques Blin (1920-1995) who was an engineer by trade but with a love for the visual arts. Blin has an immediately recognisable style characterised by a more or less misty appearance of the glaze and by decoration deeply marked in the raw clay, a method he used throughout his career. He frequently depicted fanciful birds, primitive animals, stylised figures and whimsical abstract motifs in his works which are always signed "J. Blin". This simply elegant vase (c. 1950s) is burnt orange in colour with a sumptuous glaze and of the highest quality. Its strength is in its shape which is luxuriously spherical, sensuous to touch and mesmerising to look at. Unusually, there are no sgraffito figures etched into the sides and it is this beautiful simplicity which makes this vase so attractive. This is another noteworthy find and ideal for Jacques Blin collectors and for those who love mid-century French artisans from Vallauris and beyond.
