'Inflammatory Speech' by F. DuParc (circa 1950s-70s)
SKU 0905
'Inflammatory Speech', oil on board, by F. DuParc, combines style, symbolism and symmetry all at once. A block-figure melds into in a block-chair by himself in a room of just black and white. He yells into a double-conical mouthpiece at a fire extinguisher which doubles as the support for the table upon which he leans. The character may have simply removed the discharge horn which directs the extinguishing agent to suffocate the flame. Or perhaps, the extinguisher has sprung to life to silence the inflammatory words of the figure in the painting. Words are important. Not everything is black and white. Like the CO2 extinguisher, the artist wants to displace the air of the loud-mouthed character he's conjured up.
