French Vintage Ceramic Flower Vase with Handle by Jacques Blin (circa 1950s)
SKU 1170
French mid-century ceramic flower vase with handle by Jacques Blin (circa 1950s). A large piece created using Blin's trademark misty glaze with whimsical decorations that are delightfully naive. The bulbous central body houses these hieroglyphic-like characters, each one incised into the body and encircling the piece. Above that is the wide mouth and a small circular handle attached at the meeting point between the two sections. This is a very original piece in a much sought-after style. In fair to good vintage condition. Please see the many photos attached to this listing which point out its characterful condition. The overall impression of the piece remains stunning. Signed: 'J. Blin' on the underside and 'Exemp. 225' ('Model 225').
About the Artist: Jacques Blin (1920-1995) gave up a career in engineering for his love of the visual arts. Blin has an immediately recognisable style characterised by a more or less misty appearance of the glaze and by decoration deeply marked in the raw clay, a method he used throughout his career. He frequently depicted fanciful birds, primitive animals, stylised figures and abstract motifs in his works which are always signed "J. Blin".
