'French Riviera Home' by R. de Lamy (1937)
0327
'French Riviera Home', oil on board (1937), by R. de Lamy. The pale blue of the skies and shutters tells you immediately you are in the South of France, transported by this painting to an elegant Provençal style home in the town of Menton, the last stop before reaching the Italian Riviera. It is summertime, the blue shutters are open and a slight Mediterranean breeze cools the palm tree-lined path to the house. We don't know if this is the artist's home or simply a subject that they couldn't resist. We couldn't resist its charms either in its aged but graceful original frame with characterful flaws. Artwork signed, 'de Lamy', in lower left hand corner. The back of the painting, now covered by conservation board, shows writing in the artist's own hand: 'Menton, Fevrier 1937 R. de Lamy'. In very good vintage condition. Original frame, new mount with non-reflecting glass.
