Ask a Question

French mid-century ceramic flower vase by Jacques Blin (1981). A delightful piece created using Blin's trademark misty glaze with whimsical decorations of a young bare-breasted woman and two hens with a frieze of waves just under the lip. The spherical central portion houses these characters, each one incised into the body encircling the piece. This is a very original piece in a much sought-after style. In good overall condition. Enjoy the many photos attached to this listing - please note the presence of two tiny drops of white paint. They do not cover up chips or other defects and may have simply been spills during the production process. Signed: 'J. Blin' on the underside. The date, 30 August 1981, is impressed in the body.

About the Artist: Jacques Blin (1920-1995) gave up a career in engineering for his love of the visual arts. Blin has an immediately recognisable style characterised by a more or less misty appearance of the glaze and by decoration deeply marked in the raw clay, a method he used throughout his career. He frequently depicted fanciful birds, primitive animals, stylised figures and abstract motifs in his works which are always signed "J. Blin".
