French Ceramic Dish by Jacques Blin (circa 1965)

French vintage ceramic, canoe-shaped dish by Jacques Blin (circa 1965). Blin's trademark cloudy glaze surrounds a sgraffito image of a bird - seemingly from an undiscovered primeval cave - which is featured in the centre of the dish. Whimsically shaped, it has two small legs in its front creating a downward angle toward the 'stern' of the object. Ideal for display on a book or objects shelf, a desk or coffee table. Signed on base: 'J. Blin'. Blin's pieces have become very desirable among collectors of ceramics and therefore, increasingly difficult to acquire. This piece is an investment in beauty and in value as well as being a good introduction to the delights of Jacques Blin. About the Artist: Jacques Blin (1920-1995), was an engineer by trade but with a love for the visual arts. Blin has an immediately recognisable style characterised by a more or less misty appearance of the glaze; he frequently used fanciful birds and animals, stylised figures and whimsical abstract motifs in his works with decoration deeply marked in the raw clay, a method he used throughout his career.
