'Cubist Instrumentalist' by V.R. (circa 1940s - 50s)
0118
'Cubist Instrumentalist', oil on board (circa 1940s - 50s), by artist with initials V.R. The cubist movement as conceived by Picasso and Georges Braque in the early 20th-century used flat planes of colour and complex puzzle-like compositions echoing the arrangements of cutout paper with which the style originated. This work from the 'School of Berlin' from the period just after WWII certainly draws its inspiration from this movement. In this case, colours on the subject are separated by lines, sharp angles and the occasional curve and circle as if it were being viewed through a prism. It is a sizeable work with fascinating charm. Newly framed with gold-coloured insert and in very good vintage condition commensurate with age. Upon request, a short video of the word can be provided for context.
