Ceramic wall mirror with enamel glaze, flower motif and stylised bird (circa 1970s) by François Lembo (1930 - 2013). A whimsically decorated wall mirror with gold crackle surround framing a dark blue enamel with pink and red flowers. At the bottom of the piece is a sweet stylised bird in pink outlined in gold crackle as well. This piece is in very good vintage condition with two small nicks exposing the white under-enamel on the righthand edge of the piece. They provide vintage character and do not detract from its overall charm. There is a felt backing and hanging ring on the rear of the piece. The felt often masks the Lembo signature maker's mark as it is not visible with that protective cover. A cheerful and uplifting piece sure to provoke smiles and conversation. If requested, a short video clip of the piece may be provided.

About the Designer: A native of Vallauris, France, François Lembo (1930 - 2013) started his pottery career in 1951 in the workshops of Calva and Rossignol. After his apprenticeship he worked for 3 years in his father-in-law, Marc Roussel's, studio, before opening his own in the famed town of Vallauris, France in 1960. The work of Roussel, influenced by Byzantine art, inspired Lembo to create mirrors, often decorated in the style of Russian icons. He produced a number of religious icons decorated with small ceramic beads and sold his work at "Terre de Provence" with considerable success in the 60s and 70s. He worked as a ceramicist for some 23 years and passed away in 2013. His son Renaud continues as a ceramicist in Vallauris.
