Ceramic Plate with Stylised Bird by Jacques Pouchain - Atelier Dieulefit (circa 1950s)
0372
This plate (circa 1950s) with large stylised bird - perhaps a lovely dove - is a more personal piece by Pouchain. Pouchain's trademark hazy beige glaze contrasts with the darker brown from the etched bird in the centre of the plate and the outer edge. Signed both 'J.P. and Atelier Dieulefit'. The work is in excellent vintage condition.
About the Artist: Jacques Pouchain (1925 - 2005) left Paris and gave up his architectural training in the 1950s for the South of France to devote himself to art and his pottery studio at Dieulefit. He produced highly personal work and more commercial pieces as well both revealing a modern approach to pottery.
