'Boats on the French Riviera' by Harit Noël (circa 1960s)
SKU 1043
'Boats on the French Riviera', oil on board, by Harit Noël (circa 1960s). Longtime Riviera resident Somerset Maugham coined the memorable description of the Riviera as 'a sunny place for shady people'. He wrote further, 'The shores of the Mediterranean were littered with royalties, lured by the climate, or in exile, or escaping a scandalous past or unsuitable marriage.' All that notwithstanding, the French Riviera continues to be a place of stunning beauty and allure which artist Noël captures here in this uplifting depiction of boats bobbing near the water's edge of a French Riviera village. Boats, sun, beachfront cabanas and elegant homes all come together to form this most iconic of destinations. Apply your sunscreen and enjoy the view. In good vintage condition, newly framed with linen slip and signed by the artist in the lower right hand corner.
Regrettably, the artist can only be identified by name although our gallery has noted some of their paintings have been sold at French auction houses but biographical information was not included. Regardless, the artworks are uplifting and executed with vibrant colour and consummate skill.
