Blue Ceramic Flower Vase with Handle by Jacques Blin (circa 1950s)
SKU 0882
A large blue ceramic flower vase (c. 1950s) by French ceramicist, Jacques Blin. The vase is a vivid cobalt colour in Blin's trademark misty glaze with whimsical decorations that are delightfully naive. The bulbous central body houses these hieroglyphic-like characters, each one incised into its own square as it encircles the piece. Above that the wide mouth with circular handle is attached at the meeting point between the two sections. This is a very original piece in a much sought-after style. In very good vintage condition. Signed: 'J. Blin' on the underside base.
About the Artist: Jacques Blin (1920 - 1995) gave up a career in engineering for his love of the visual arts. Blin has an immediately recognisable style characterised by a more or less misty appearance of the glaze and by decoration deeply marked in the raw clay, a method he used throughout his career. He frequently depicted fanciful birds, primitive animals, stylised figures and abstract motifs in his works which are always signed "J. Blin".
