'Free Will', acrylic on canvas, attached to a larger stretched canvas, by Pandi (I Nyoman Sutaria), 2015. The number three has meaning in many cultures. In this rendering we see three faces in various colours. Each represents the different paths a life may take. The red face in the centre exudes lust, passion and energy and symbolically divides the other two faces (or choices). Pink relates to caring, tenderness and acceptance and black: unhappiness, evil, anger mourning and death. For the moment, the figures in red and pink reject the options offered by the third. Each face, or possibility, represents its own separate story, its own beginning, middle and end as well as a past, present and future. It is called free will and reminds the viewer that at each juncture the direction we choose will have relevance and importance to our own life's story.
What appears to be piece of black tape holding the smaller canvas on to the larger one, is simply a clever visual trick - a trompe l'oeil - a small visual gift from the artist to the viewer. This painting is in very good condition. Upon request, a video clip of the work may be provided. Signed: 'Pandi 2015' in lower lefthand corner.
