Vintage French ceramic pitcher by Michel Barbier (circa 1960s). A delightful ceramic vessel / vase with handle in a white lustrous glaze and hints of grey. Painted on the sides are Barbier's trademark stylised bird painted in blue along with a mountain flower. The ground is represented in a brown and green band with plant life in a band near the base of the piece. Mid-Century charm is found throughout. The piece is in very good vintage condition overall.  The maker's mark appears on the underside of the ceramic.

About the Artist: Michel Barbier (1933-2012), was ceramic decorator in Vallauris, France, for Gustave Reynaud's Le Mûrier, along with Jean Derval, Reynaud's brother-in-law who designed production models. Barbier's pieces sported stylised birds and foliage which were the most common themes both for utilitarian and for exhibition pieces in which abstract motifs were also employed.
