'The Artist's Studio' (l'Atelier), oil on board, by Louis Toncini (circa 1980s). Before the artist's death, he painted several views of his studio, or atelier. Like the others, this work possesses the vibrant colours of the Fauvists and of his fellow Provençal painters of that era. The composition and shapes incorporate elements of cubism and straddles the line between figuration and abstraction. What a beautiful place to be. This gallery believes it to be one of Toncini's most alluring works. In good overall condition. It is in its original frame and signed on the lower left. The frame is in fair condition. Please enjoy the many photos accompanying this listing. Upon request a video will be provided.

About the Artist: Louis Toncini (1907-2002), born in Marseille, France, was one of a group of artists who founded the 'peintres prolétariens', or later, the painters of the people. He painted the world of workers and depicted such subjects as factories, warehouses, train stations and working ports, etc. After France's liberation from occupation during the war, his work took a more optimistic turn with vibrant paintings of still lifes, bouquets and country landscapes. Toncini's art appears in museums, galleries and private collections around the world and has been sold by the major international auction houses.
