Lanciotto Galeotti for L’Originale, Anthurium table lamp, gilt brass and lacquer, Florence, Italy, (circa 1970s–80s). This is a sculptural table lamp that harks back to the Hollywood Regency period of the 1930s in the form of a flowering anthurium. Slender gilt stems rise from a cast, pooled base, carrying three glossy coral-red blooms, each with its curling golden spadix, alongside three deeply veined gilt leaves. The plant twines around the central stem as if it were growing up towards the light, and the warm red against the bright gilding gives it a wonderfully lively, almost tropical feel. The lamp stands on a rectangular white base with a softly bevelled edge. The fabric shade is not included with the lamp. It is in good overall condition with some minor losses of colour on the leaves and markings including a characterful patina on the central lamp stem. The gilt base bears Galeotti’s ‘LG’ mark. The lamp is currently wired for continental European use. It can be adapted easily in your location by a change of the plug. Please enjoy the many photos accompanying the listing. About the Designer: Lanciotto Galeotti (born 1945) founded L’Originale near Florence in 1970, producing luxurious handmade lighting in the Italian tradition. He was the company’s designer, and the business still exists today, making classic chandeliers, wall lights and table lamps in the Italian craft tradition. It describes its products as handmade luxury lighting and furnishings of the highest quality. His best-known designs from the 1970s and 80s are sculptural lamps featuring birds and plants: herons, ducks, peacocks, gulls and geese, along with lilies, bulrushes and flowers like this anthurium. They’re typically made of gilded or silver-plated bronze or brass, set on bases of black marble, travertine, or lacquered wood in black or white.
