A ceramic, bottle-shaped, single-flower vase (circa 1955-1965) by Les Argonautes, Vallauris, France. An elegant form with a matt, milky-white surface interrupted in the centre band by a textural, line motif with brown hues. Viewing the interior of the bottle from the lip, one finds a luscious blue - a visual treat! In very good overall condition. Maker's mark, 'Les Argonautes' appears on the base of piece. Please enjoy the many photos accompanying this listing. Upon request, a video will be provided.

About the Artists: Isabelle Ferlay (1917-2009) and Frédérique Bourguet (1925-1997) set up a pottery studio together in Vallauris which they named 'Les Argonautes'. Using the local Vallauris red-clay with grog, at first they produced small-scale household objects and tableware, then they tackled new forms, large vases and zoomorphic sculptures, often inspired by exotic birds. The glazes, mostly in muted colours, are laid on in a very simple manner to emphasise the form and the quality of the modelling. The workshop remained active through the late 1960s to early 1970s, though their most collectible and artistically distinct work dates to the mid-1950s to mid-1960s.
