'Uniformed Man' by J.G. (Circa 1940s - 1950s)

'Uniformed Man', oil on board, by J.G. (circa 1940's - 1950s). Depicted in this work is an imposing cubist figure in naval uniform. Combining cubism with elements of abstract expressionism, an art form which emerged after the atrocities of WWII, artists expressed their feelings through painting. Perhaps J.G., who was from the 'School of Berlin', painted this seafaring uniformed man as a way to pay homage to those who went to sea. It is certainly inspired by artworks of Picasso and Georges Braque as expressed in the post WWII era. It is in excellent vintage condition and newly framed with linen slip insert. The quality of the work is undeniable. Initialed by the artist: 'J.G.' in the lower right hand corner.
