'Musician with Harp', oil on board, by artist with initials, J.G. (circa 1940s - 1960s). Clearly inspired by Georges Braque's (1882 - 1963) works, this painting is similar to experimental representations by both Braque and Picasso which challenged the orthodoxy of illusionistic space in painting. J.G. has broken down the image of this musician with harp into its geometrical components and represented several angles at once. This elegant depiction is accomplished with sensuous earth tones on a grey backdrop masterfully executed. It is a stunning work. In good vintage condition commensurate with age. Newly framed. There are some minor blemishes on the painting surface which, however, do not affect the overall impression of the work. Initialed: 'J.G.' in lower lefthand corner. A video clip of this work may be provided upon request.

About the Artist: Unfortunately, details of J.G.'s life remain undiscovered other than they lived in Berlin in the period after WWII. We must remember that under Soviet-controlled East Berlin, this type of art was considered a radical departure from the 'authorised' socialist realism. Notwithstanding the anonymity of the works, several galleries have acquired and are now selling J.G.'s art which speaks to the widespread assessment of the interest and quality of the pieces.
