Mid-century French ceramic apothecary jar by Le Mûrier (circa 1960s). A delightful small piece with Le Mûrier's signature style, chalk-white colour with red flower and foliage painted motif. A charming bell-shaped cover with painted red band adds interest and links the lid with the base. The team of Gustave Reynaud and his famous brother-in-law, Jean Derval, combined to design and make Le Mûrier's best pieces and this is a delightful example of their work. In good overall condition commensurate with age. The interior of the jar is a creamy white. Maker's mark on the base, Le Mûrier's trademarked mulberry leaf. Upon request, a video may be provided. About the Artist: Gustave Reynaud (1915-1972) founded the pottery, Le Mûrier (Mulberry Tree), in Vallauris, France in 1955. He produced earthenware designed in conjunction with his well known brother-in-law, Jean Derval, as well as vases, wall plaques and anthropomorphic jugs. He also worked with the potter JF Descombes and decorator Michel Barbier in their well known village. After Reynaud's death in 1972 his wife ran the pottery until 1984.
