French Vintage Ceramic Flower Vase by Le Mûrier (circa 1960s)
SKU 2213
A French Vintage ceramic vase by Le Mûrier (circa 1960s). This sizeable yet elegant flower vase is a delightful work of art in the trademark style of Gustave Reynaud and Le Mûrier. On the rustic exterior you will find charming flowers with blue petals as well as leaves and branches on the piece's body. The surface glaze consists of a chalky white base with subtle blue hues and a muted but appealing sheen. Utterly charming and delightfully unassuming, this piece will be the centre of conversation for those lucky enough to have it in their view. In good overall condition with a tiny production fault in the lip whereby a sliver is filled but not glazed (see photos). Maker's mark appears on the underside of the piece. Upon request, a video will be provided.
About the Artist: Gustave Reynaud (1915-1972) founded the pottery, Le Mûrier (Mulberry Tree), in Vallauris, France in 1955. He produced earthenware designed in conjunction with his well known brother-in-law, Jean Derval, as well as vases, wall plaques and anthropomorphic jugs. He also worked with the potter, J-F Descombes, and decorator Michel Barbier in their well known village in the French Riviera. After Reynaud's death in 1972 his wife ran the pottery until 1984.
