Mid-Century French Ceramic Vase, Vallauris (circa 1960s)
SKU 0815
Mid-century ceramic glazed vase (circa 1960s) with French Japonisme design. In the late 18th Century in France, there was an obsession with all things Japanese. This inspired designers and manufacturers of the decorative arts to incorporate Japanese design elements into traditionally French objets d’art. In this case, we've discovered a piece from the mid-20th century with a graceful shape, wide mouth and muted off-white coloured base with elegant highlights in a delicate brown. The centre has a repeating geometric shape around the whole of the body. The vase's lip has an elegant meandering line decoration. The interior reveals white with subtle bands from the potter's hand - all in all, a wonderful piece with plenty of vintage style. In good vintage condition with some characterful blemishes and nicks commensurate with age (see accompanying photos). Upon request, a short video clip of this piece may be provided. Mark on base: 'Vallauris' (a town in the South of France known particularly for its ceramics from its heyday in the 1950s including those of Pablo Picasso).
