Mid-century ceramic glazed vase (circa 1960s) by Marcel Giraud, Vallauris, France. A graceful piece with a significant presence, wide mouth and muted chalk-coloured base, it is the epitome of vintage 20th century style. With a surround inspired by tribal / ethnic design, the piece is visually stunning and tactile all at once. Sure to be a conversation piece in your home or work place. About the Artist: Marcel Giraud (born 1937), from Vallauris, France, left school at the age of 13 to become an apprentice potter at the workshop of Blaise Rubino. He later worked at several other workshops in the area until he opened his own studio in 1960 creating mostly utilitarian ware. Since 1975 Giraud has taken up painting, sculpture and continues to create sculptural figures, animals and other decorative objects in his retirement.
