Rattan desk or vanity table by Louis Sognot (circa 1950s). Characteristic of its period, there are three drawers located under this rattan desk as well as a storage shelf. Rattan grilled panels connect the side legs. The desktop is edged with rattan canes and reveals blemishes and scratches commensurate with its age; overall, the piece is in fair vintage condition.

About the designer: Louis Sognot (1892 - 1969) famously collaborated with the Atelier Primavera founded in 1912 by the Parisian department store, Printemps, in order to create crafted modern furniture and objects. Sognot conceived functional and elegant pieces using innovative materials, especially rattan, which gave a contemporary feel to his designs. A professor at l'Ecole Boulle, Sognot inspired many post-war designers and contributed significantly to the character of the 1950s aesthetic.
