Vintage French Herbier Coffee Table by Roger Capron (circa 1970s)

This piece is a fine example of Capron's celebrated 'Herbier' tile series (circa 1970s), in which real plant sprigs and grasses gathered from the garrigue scrubland surrounding Vallauris were pressed directly into the wet clay before firing, leaving behind a delicate, fossil-like botanical imprint unique to each tile. The tiles are arranged around a central field of plain yellowish-beige squares, bordered on all sides by individually decorated Herbier panels, set within a substantial dark-stained wood frame raised on cylindrical legs. In fair overall condition; please note several blemishes to the wood surround and legs visible in the accompanying photos. No visible signature to the tiles; attribution based on the characteristic Herbier tile design and construction. This is a wonderful and charming piece of Capron history for true connoisseurs of this celebrated master.
