'The Port of Honfleur', oil on canvas, by Gervais Leterreux (1993). This is a charming painting of the port of Honfleur. Especially known for its old port, Honfleur is characterised by its houses with slate-covered frontages painted many times by artists including in particular, Gustave Courbet, Eugène Boudin, Claude Monet and Johan Jongkind. These artists formed the école de Honfleur which contributed to the appearance of the Impressionist movement. Leterreux was inspired particularly by the works of Eugène Boudin. The Sainte-Catherine church, which has a bell tower separate from the principal building, is the largest wooden church in France. Please enjoy the many photos accompanying this listing. Upon request a video of the artwork may be provided. The work is signed by the artist in the lower right hand corner and is also titled and dated on the reverse of the painting.
