'Les Halles Food Market', oil on canvas (circa 1960s), by Roland Hamon. This artwork captures a typical day in the old food markets of Paris, called Les Halles. Les Halles had been the bread basket of Paris for centuries but was moved to the suburbs in the early 1970s and replaced with the controversially designed Pompidou Centre. The artist has captured, in vivid colour, a snippet of life in Paris that is no longer. Vegetable and fruit stands and kiosks with an abundance of products are all adjacent to or under the old coverings while shoppers go about their business. The detail, colour and perspective make this painting very charming and desirable for those lovers of the city of Paris. In good vintage condition commensurate with age. There are some signs of minor wear around the edges of the canvas but only add to the artwork's charm. Signed: 'R. Hamon' in lower right hand corner. Newly framed in a tray. Upon request, a video clip of the artwork can be provided.

About the Artist: Roland Hamon (1909 - 1987), was a French painter of landscapes and animated urban scenes. He was a student at the National School of Fine Arts in Paris and exhibited at the Salon des Artists where he was a member since 1934. A prolific artist, we owe him a debt of thanks for having captured and preserved so many views of Paris from the 1930s to the 1970s. His artworks are collected internationally and frequently appear for sale in the major auction houses.
