'Las Ramblas Barcelona', watercolour on art paper, by Spanish artist, Josè Goday (1984). A wonderful snippet of the magical street in Barcelona called Las Ramblas is depicted in this charming watercolour. A tree-lined pedestrian street, La Rambla stretches for 1.2 kilometers connecting the Plaça de Catalunya in its centre with the Christopher Columbus Monument at Port Vell. La Rambla forms the boundary between the neighbourhoods of the Barri Gòtic to the east and the El Raval to the west. The tree-lined central promenade of La Rambla is crowded during the day and until late in the night. Its origins as a watercourse are reflected in the paving design, which appears to ripple like water. Along the promenade's length are kiosks that sell newspapers and souvenirs, others sell flowers. Nowadays one can also find street traders, performers, and pavement cafes and bars. Several notable sights are also located within the promenade, including a mosaic by Joan Miró and the Font de Canaletes, a fountain and popular meeting point. What a wonderful piece for those in love with Barcelona. The artwork is in good condition, has been newly framed and glazed and is signed by the artist in the lower left hand corner: 'Goday'. The original owner provided the full name, date and title of the artwork without being certain of other biographical information.

Our gallery's research about the artist also yielded very little information except for a probable birth year of 1914.
