Pair of French mid-century ceramic plates with stylised horses by Atelier Cerenne (circa 1950s). The Chabaneix horse designs are incised into the ceramic, the lighter lines contrasting with the lustrous black. In good overall condition. Signed on the underside with maker's mark and Chabaneix. Please note the relatively diminutive size of the plates.

About Atelier Cerenne: Created by Charles René Neveux, the Cerenne workshop, active from 1945 - 1958, takes its name from the contraction of its company name "Céramique René Neveux". At the height of its renown, the workshop was one of the most important in Vallauris, employing around fifty people, including 15 decorators. Its production ranged from utilitarian ceramics to unique pieces with special custom orders for French and international customers. Cerenne also created pieces of furniture with ceramic decoration. Pieces signed by René Neveux himself are relatively rare.
