Mid-century French decorative ceramic bowl (circa 1960s) by Albert Thiry. Chalky-white glazed interior sides prepare the viewer for the delightful base which consists of a round of brown and green encircled by an incised leaf motif with a sunflower effect. The exterior of the piece reuses the charming light brown in a decor reminiscent of a basket weave which encircles its entirety. The bowl is not only visually appealing but very tactile as well. In overall good condition. Signed: 'Thiry' on underside of dish. This gallery finds that Thiry's works are more and more in demand in overdue recognition of his artistic creativity. Please enjoy the many photos accompanying this listing. Upon request a video will be provided.

About the Artist: Albert Thiry (1932-2009) was born in Nice, France. His family moved close by to Vallauris where he spent most of the school holidays in the potteries; in 1956 he was taken on as an assistant decorator with an opportunity to make his own pieces. Albert and his wife, Pyot, set up their own pottery in 1961. Their standard production, in Vallauris clay with added grog to emphasise rusticity, resulted in delightful pieces both highly elaborate and utilitarian.
