French decorative ceramic vase by Michel Barbier (circa 1960s), Vallauris, France. Abstract triangular shapes with cross-hatch patterns in jade green and dark brown encircle the vase. At the top of the decorated portion, a repeating rope pattern with a 'frayed' connection appears to hold the piece together and provides visual depth. It has a lustrous glaze on the milk-white base. It's a delightful piece with much charm. In very good condition. Upon request a video of the piece may be provided. Barbier's signature minimalist 'oiseau' or bird, marks the underside of the vase.

About the Artist: Michel Barbier (1933-2012), was ceramic decorator in Vallauris, France, for Gustave Reynaud's Le Mûrier, along with Jean Derval, Reynaud's brother-in-law who designed production models. Barbier's pieces sported stylised birds and foliage which were the most common themes both for utilitarian and for exhibition pieces in which abstract motifs were also employed.
