Set of Six Manneken-Pis Coasters from Fornasetti in Original Box (circa 1960s)
SKU 2891
Set of Six Manneken-Pis coasters by Piero Fornasetti (circa 1960s). Brussels' most famous little boy has a wardrobe of hundreds of costumes, sent from all over the world, and here Piero Fornasetti dresses him up for six of them. Each coaster shows the Manneken-Pis in a different outfit, printed in Fornasetti's signature black-and-white engraving style on a gleaming gold ground and framed by a curling banner naming the costume. The six characters are the Welsh Guard, in bearskin and sword; the Military Police; the 18th-century Marquis, in tricorne and brocade coat; the Garde-Champêtre de Montmartre; the Torero; and the Gilles, the costumed carnival figure of Binche in Belgium. Together they make a witty, very Fornasetti set, as much at home on a bar cart as displayed on a shelf. The set comes in its original textured gold presentation box, with protective cushions between each coaster. They have been impeccably maintained and are thus in good overall condition with just some slight fading on some of the undersides and minor blemishing on the tops. Please enjoy the many photos accompanying the listing. Upon request a video will be provided.
