Set of six French vintage ceramic plates (circa 1960s) by Albert Thiry. With the trademark Thiry design and decoration scheme, these plates' base colour is done in a chalky-white glaze with painted blue flowers and green leaves. They are elegantly simple and are reminiscent of the style referred to as Japonisme. In good overall condition. Unsigned. This gallery finds that Thiry's works are more and more in demand in overdue recognition of his artistic creativity. Upon request a video of the set may be provided.

About the Artist: Albert Thiry (1932-2009) was born in Nice, France. His family moved to Vallauris where he spent most of the school holidays in the potteries; in 1956 he was taken on as an assistant decorator with an opportunity to make his own pieces. Albert and his wife, Pyot, set up their own pottery in 1961. Their standard production, in Vallauris clay with added grog to emphasise rusticity, resulted in delightful pieces both highly elaborate and utilitarian.
