Pair of water buffalo horn ritual spoons from Timor Island, Indonesia (circa 1950s).

The horns of large creatures were often used to carve intricate spoons which were most likely used for large ceremonial feasts and offerings to ancestors (Ref: Indonesian Tribal Art by Bruce W. Carpenter). This pair - with female and male on their finials - are mounted on a modern block. The horn patina has taken on a sheen with uneven wear but they are in overall good vintage condition commensurate with age and use. Upon request a video of the piece can be provided.
